Chemical weapons were used in Syria, UN High Commissioner says

Navi Pillay, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights believes that Syria had used chemical weapons.

However, Pillai did not say which of the conflicting parties in Syria was suspected of using chemical weapons on August 21 in a suburb of Damascus.

At the opening session of the UN on the Human Rights issues, the Commissioner stressed that "the circumstances and the responsibility of a party still need to be clarified," Interfax reports.

Pillay added that the use of chemical weapons is "one of the most serious crimes that can be committed."
