Thomas Melia, US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Democracy, Human Rights and Labor, had negotiations with Georgian Defense Minister Irakly Alasania at the Georgian Defense Ministry yesterday, Trend reports.
Officials of the US State Department, Defense Department and the Justice Department discussed bilateral cooperation with Georgian Defense Minister Irakly Alasania, Col. Irakly Dzneladze heading the Joint Staff, Deputy Defense Ministers Tamar Karosanidze and Mikhail Darchiashvili.
Special attention was paid to parliamentary transparency and control in the light of Georgia’s plans to join the NATO. The US delegation was informed about the opportunities to vote in the Georgian Armed Forces.
Attendants of the talks noted that the electoral atmosphere this year had improved since the year before.
