Štefan Füle: there will be no association with Armenia without free trade zone

Štefan Füle, the European Commissioner for Enlargement and Neighbourhood Policy, said today that an Association Agreement between the EU and Armenia is not possible without an agreement establishing a free trade zone .

Mediamax reported that according to Štefan Füle the EU was not aware of Armenia’s intentions to participate either in the Customs Union or in EU association. "The EU was directly informed of this only on August 31, the issue was not part of the discussion during my recent visit to Yerevan in July," he said.

"We respect the sovereign decisions of our partners, they are free to choose the format of integration and cooperation they want to follow," Štefan Füle said.
