Leonid Slutsky, the chairman of the State Duma committee for CIS, Eurasian integration and relations with compatriots living abroad, commented today on the plans of the Committee and issues of cooperation between Russia and countries of the former Soviet Union, its activities within the framework of the Customs Union and the establishment of the Eurasian Economic Union.
Slutsky noted that the Committee regularly conducts negotiations on establishment of the Eurasian Union. "All of this has resulted in the establishment of the forum. There have already been two forums, the third one will be held in November The main theme of the forum is the economy," the chairman of the committee said, adding that Eurasian integration is a priority in his work.
The politician also said that he believes that the EU Eastern Partnership and the Eurasian project go in different directions and hence are not mutually exclusive, because, Slutsky said the "Eurasian integration absorbs European integration, being a more global project."
