Azerbaijan to discuss WTO membership in Geneva

Azerbaijani Deputy Foreign Minister Mahmoud Mamedguliyev said that Geneva will host a new round of talks on WTO membership in late October – early November, Interfax-Azerbaijan reports.

Azerbaijan had all the necessary documents prepared and was waiting for the WTO Secretariat to respond, he noted. The deputy minister added that Azerbaijan will have bilateral talks with the US, EU and other states in Geneva.

Azerbaijan has been trying to join the WTO since 1997. It signed a bilateral protocol with Turkey in 2007, concluding WTO talks. Protocols were signed with Oman and the UAE in May 2008, with Georgia in May 2010, Kyrgyzstan in 2012. A protocol will soon be signed with Moldova.
