Abdulatipov to become head of Dagestan

Dagestani President Ramazan Abdulatipov plans to replace the term “president” with ‘head of republic”, RIA Novosti reports.

Abdulatipov noted at the Valday Discussion Club that he was planning to adopt the system of universal elections.

Many Russian republics used to have presidents. Their leaders became “heads of region”. Karelia, Altay, Mordovia, Komi and Chechnya were the first to adopt the new term.
