Lawyers of Sayid Amirov, ex-Mayor of Makhachkala, and his nephew Yusup Japarov, Deputy Mayor of Kaspiysk, will appeal initiation of a criminal case against them by the Russian Investigative Committee, Kommersant reports.
They were charged with preparations for a terrorist attack and illegal gun trafficking. Magomed Abdulgalimov, ex-assistant prosecutor of Khasavyurt, is one of the suspects. The latter is suspected of heading a criminal gang notable for assassinations. He said that a Strela-2M MANPAD hidden in the Karabudakhkentsky District of Dagestan.
The MANPAD was purchased in late March 2012. Investigators believe that Amirov ordered its purchase to kill Sagid Murtazaliyev, a member of the Dagestani People’s Assembly and head of the local office of the Pension Fund, a political opponent of Amirov. The ex-mayor was planning to shoot down Murtazaliyev’s plane, the investigators say.
