The Criminal Court of Erzurum Province has charged Suleyman Demirel, 9th President of Turkey, with involvement in the Turkish military coup of February 28, 1997, Trend reports.
Generals Cevik Bir, Erol Ozkasnak and others were detained earlier.
Turkey had military coups in 1960, 1971, 1980 and 1997. The one in 1997 resulted in the resignation of Prime Minister Necmettin Erbakan.
