12 Iranians and 2 Lebanese, who had been imprisoned in Azerbaijan, have been extradited to Iran, Trend reports, citing information from the Ministry of Justice.
The Lebanese citizens, Nadjmeddin Ali Khuseyn and Keraki Ali Muhammed, were deported to Iran on August 8th. They were sentenced to 15 years imprisonment for terrorism; illegal purchase, storage, transport and carrying of firearms, ammunition and explosives; the production, purchase and sale of drugs and psychoactive substances; spying; illegal crossing of the border with Azerbaijan; forgery and the making or sale of official documents, state awards and forms.
They were arrested on October 14th, 2009.
4 Azerbaijanis were involved in these crimes and sentenced to 14 years of prison. The group was planning to bomb the Israeli embassy. Keraki and Khuseyn had links with Hezbollah.
Azerbaijani scientist Rashid Aliyev has been released from Iranian prison today, and is currently in Baku.
According to the Ministry of Justice, 12 Iranians were deported to Iran from Azerbaijan on August 9th. They were accused of smuggling and the production, purchase, storage, transport and sales of drugs or psychoactive substances. They were sentenced to between 8 and 14 years of prison. One of them is a woman.
There are 664 foreign citizens in Azerbaijani prisons.
Azerbaijan has a protocol on legal assistance with Iran signed in 1998.
