Russia and US want Geneva-2 conference

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and US Secretary of State John Kerry have discussed Syria at the APEC summit in Bali, RIA Novosti reports.

Kerry said that the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) started destroying Syrian chemical weapons yesterday. He noted that Syria was eager to cooperate with the international community. According to the secretary of state, the UN and Lahdar Brahimi, special envoy of the UN and Arab League, should set the date for the next conference on Syria.

Lavrov confirmed Kerry’s statements and noted that Russia was expecting to attend the upcoming international conference for Syria in November. He added that a new delegation should be formed for the meeting.
