The speaker of the North Ossetian parliament, Larisa Khabitsova, said North Ossetia approves of the decision to rename the post of heads of Russian autonomous subjects as the post of 'head of the republic' and recalled that North Ossetia was the first to replace the word ‘president’ with ‘head of the republic’ in 2005, RIA Novosti reports.
Chechen President Ramzan Kadyrov sent a letter to the Chechen parliament on August 12th, requesting the local deputies to rename the high post. He said that he would accept any term, except ‘president’.
In May 2005, Taymuraz Mamsurov, the parliamentary speaker of the then Republic of North Ossetia-Alaniya, initiated a similar action. The law was passed and Mamsurov replaced the former president, Alexander Dzasokhov, becoming the head of the republic, instead of the president.
