Russia expects Azerbaijani presidential polls to enforce stability - experts

Valery Ruzin, President of the Eurasian Academy of Television and Radio, emphasized that Azerbaijan was a key country for Russia and the results of its presidential polls will affect stability at the Russian-Azerbaijani border regions.


Sergey Mikheyev, Director General of the Institute for Caspian Cooperation, said that the elections were essential for the foreign policy of Azerbaijan. He expressed regret that Russia did not have enough experts to study the post-Soviet space.


Yevgeny Minchenko, Director of the International Institute for Political Expertise, emphasized that no one in Russia doubted Ilham Aliyev would win the presidential polls. He believes that Azerbaijan's strongest lobby is in Russia.


Ruzin said that Russia and Azerbaijan had a high-level dialogue. He reminded that Russian President Vladimir Putin had visited Baku, proving intensive cooperation. The expert predicts active cooperation within the framework of settling remaining issues of the Caspian Sea and persuade Iran to find common grounds with Russia and Kazakhstan and expects further humanitarian collaboration in the fields of the Russian language and education centers.


He added that he had proposed joint projects at a meeting in Baku. One of the projects is marking of the anniversary of the birth of the singer Rashid Beybutov in 2015.


Alexey Vlasov, Editor-in-Chief of Vestnik Kavkaza, said that the elections will affect the situation in the region and bilateral relations with Russia in all fields based on the principles of stability and succession of the political course. Putin's recent visit proved Russia pays great attention to Azerbaijan, he said. Stability was essential for sustainable development of the South Caucasus and Central Asia, Vlasov concluded.
