Russia, US, UN discuss control of Syrian chemical weapons

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov, US acting Under Secretary of State Rose Gottemoeller and Assistant Secretary of State for International Security and Nonproliferation Thomas Countryman discussed the transfer of Syrian chemical weapons under international control at a meeting in New York, ITAR-TASS reports.


Special attention was paid to Russian-US relations in the context of missile defense.


Susana Malcorra, UN Chef de Cabinet to the Executive Office, and Angela Kane, UN High Representative for Disarmament Affairs, discussed utilization of Syrian chemical weapons within the framework of the Russia-US-UN format. They talked about a joint mission of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons and the UN to stimulate the process.
