UN extends NATO operation in Afghanistan

The UN Security Council has voted for an extension of the mandate for NATO’s operation in Afghanistan until December 31, ITAR-TASS reports.

The UN expresses concerns about the Taliban, Al Qaeda and other extremist organizations.

The ISAF gained control over security in Afghanistan in June 2013. The number of NATO troops dropped from 130,000 to 87,200 on August 1, 2013.
