Leonid Slutsky, head of the Russian parliamentary committee for the CIS, Eurasian integration and relations with compatriots, said that Eurasian Integration was based on 17 intergovernmental agreements, which will make a total of 60 in the future. The Eurasian Parliamentary Assembly will unite parliaments of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan.
The official noted that formation of the Eurasian Economic Space was complicated. Nonetheless, the agreement on formation of the Single Economic Space will come into force on January 1, 2015. Slutsky emphasized the role of the Eurasian Union as the link of the EU and the APEC and as a contributor to security.
The Union State (Russia, Belarus) was an example of successful economic integration in the Eurasian space, he went on.
Slutsky reminded that Vilnius will host a summit of the Eastern Partnership in November 2013. One of the issues for discussions is the decision of Ukraine to go for the EU or the Customs Union.
Commenting on the events in Biryulyovo and migration problems, Slutsky emphasized that adoption of visa regimes for CIS states was unacceptable. He called for a wise national and migration policy.
