The Russian Presidential Council for Interethnic Relations may discuss the appointment of an ombudsman or a commissioner for interethnic affairs and migration policy at a meeting in Ufa next week, Izvestia reports.
Alexey Zhuravlyov, a member of the council and Russian parliament, said that the ombudsman or commissioner will be under direct presidential control and will have a wide range of authority for coordination of migration policy at state structures. He will also report on progress in interethnic relations and migration policy.
Aslambek Paskachev of the council noted that ideas to monitor interethnic relations in regions had been raised on numerous occasions.
