The initiative came from Chechen leader Ramazan Kadyrov, who decided to give up his presidential title. According to the Duma's vice-Speaker, Vyacheslav Volodin, other regional leaders agreed that the title of the republics' high officials should not include the word 'president', as the Russian Federation has only one president.
Several regions with legislative power offices named 'State Duma', such as Stavropol Krai, will also reconsider these names.
