Experts comment on new Azerbaijani cabinet

Recently-reelected Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev appointed a new cabinet yesterday. Artur Rasizade was appointed as prime minister. The majority of ministers remained in office, except for former defense minister Safar Abiyev and former minister of labour and social insurance Fizuli Alekberov.

Vestnik Kavkaza discussed these appointments with Azerbaijani lawmaker and political analyst Rasim Musabekov and another expert, Professor Fikret Sadykhov.

According to Musabekov, the fact that the prime minister and the majority of the members of the cabinet remained in office shows that the president is satisfied with the government's work. However, the expert notes that the former defense minister displeased the president because he seems unable to use the funds allocated to the body properly.

Professor Sadykhov also believes that the appointments aren't surprising. According to the expert, all the changes were promised by the president ahead of the elections. All these changes are well-founded, he says.
