Russia has been struck by a wave of outrageous crimes this week: the explosion of a passenger bus in Volgograd caused by a member of the Makhachkala Gang on Monday, the murder of the chief tax inspector of Khasavyurt and deputy prosecutor of Vladikavkaz on Wednesday, the explosion of a police officer’s car in Khasavyurt and a blast on the path of a military convoy on Thursday.
General Sergey Kanchukov, ex-Intelligence Chief of the forces of the Russian Defense Ministry in Chechnya, expressed confidence that the events in Volgograd and murders in Khasavyurt were linked together in a scheme to ruin the Sochi Olympic Games. The crimes were organized to check the reaction of the law enforcers and to scare the authorities, he believes.
Sergey Goncharov, President of the International Association of Veterans of the Alpha Group, sees no connections between the terrorist acts. He noted that the women who had organized the suicide blast in Volgograd was of Dagestani origin. However, he admitted that the murders could have something to do with the Olympic Games. Goncharov said that security services were doing their best to make the Games safe.
He proposed a theory of personal reasons for the murders. The expert believes that the assassinated officials could have been subjects of revenge for violating the Shariah.
