Expert comments on problems North Caucasus faces

The First Vice President of the Geopolitical Research Academy, Konstantin Sivkov, discussed with Vestnik Kavkaza the major problems the North Caucasus is facing.

According to the expert, there are many parties involved in the issue. Among them are global, regional and local centres of power. The main global parties involved in the issue are the US and the EU, he says. Both are interested in increasing their influence in the region and establishing a bridgehead for a possible strike on Iran.

The expert believes that stability in the North Caucasus is not favourable for the US or the EU.

Another party are the Shiite nations of Saudi Arabia and Qatar, which are interested in establishment of a global Shiite caliphate. These powers are also promoting radical Islamism and instability in the region, he says.

There are also local centres of power, which are using youngsters in order to increase their own influence, the expert says.
