An Agreement on strategic partnership and mutual aid has been signed today between the president of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, and the president of Turkey, Abdullah Gül, reports Novosti – Azerbaijan.
During Gul's visit to Azerbaijan, problems of energy partnership, expansion of trade and peacemaking in the Caucasus were discussed.
The president of Turkey stressed that his country plays an important role in the establishment of peace in the Caucasus. "It is a matter of vital importance to deal with the problem of 'hidden' conflicts, which can lead to bigger ones," Abdullah Gül said.
Gul also expressed the desire to finish building the Baku – Tbilisi – Qars railway by 2012. Its construction was started in 2007.
