Pyatigorsk forms Ethnic Council

The Ethnic Council of Stavropol Territory opened in Pyatigorsk yesterday, Pyatigorsk Mayor Lev Travnev said, ITAR-TASS reports.
It consists of about 30 heads of cultural associations and experts.
The Ethnic Council will focus on prevention and settlement of ethnic conflicts, informing the public about realization of measures for inter-ethnic peace, organization of cultural and educational programs, social initiatives and consultations.
Attendees of the first session of the council passed the program of subsequent actions and decided to publish the Atlas of Peoples and Cultures of Pyatigorsk. The book describes about 140 ethnicities.
