Tajikistan is electing a new president. Candidates are Emomali Rahmon, President of the republic and leader of the People’s Democratic Party, Ismoil Talbakov, Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party, Olimjon Boboyev, leader of the Party of Economic Reforms, Abduhalim Gafarov, leader of the Socialist Party, and Tolibbek Bukhoriyev, a member of the Agrarian Party, RIA Novosti reports.
The 3158 polling stations of Tajikistan opened at 6.00 am. Over 60 stations will open abroad, including 24 in Russia. Over 4 million ballot papers were printed for the elections in the Tajik, Russian, Uzbek and Kyrgyz languages.
Over 500 international observers, including 150 short-term observers from CIS countries, monitor the process under supervision of Executive Secretary Sergey Lebedev.
Rahmon has already voted at polling station N15.
