Ex-Minister for Finances Bolat Zhamishev has replaced Sagintayev. Deputy head of the Kazakh Presidential Administration Bakhyt Sultanov has become the Minister for Finances and Vice Prime Minister.
Andrey Grozin, head of the section for Central Asia and Kazakhstan at the Institute of CIS States, said that the reshuffle was a demonstration of Nazarbayev’s awareness of the situation and readiness to move any officials. The expert noted that no hints about the reshuffle had been seen the day before.
He predicts more reshuffles within two months, reminding that Zhamishev was a grand financier in the country and had a post with no direct financial link.
