Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan said at the Presidential Security Council for Atomic Energy yesterday that Armenia was constantly modernizing its national laws for nuclear security and fulfilling international obligations, News.am reports.
The Armenian parliament ratified the 2005 amendments to the Convention on Physical Protection of Nuclear Material and amendments to the national law on use of atomic energy for peaceful purposes.
Armenia and Russia will soon sign an agreement for nuclear security. The document will help Armenia develop infrastructure of nuclear security in the context of preparations to build new nuclear energy blocks, training of specialists for nuclear security with account of IAEA standards and expansion of cooperation.
Armenia and the US signed a memorandum of understanding in energy in October 2012. The document strengthens cooperation in nuclear energy.
