South Caucasus needs common security system – expert

Vladimir Yevseyev, Director of the Center for Socio-Political Studies, said that the South Caucasus should form a common security system together with Turkey and Iran. He noted that it would be a more successful initiative if Iran improved relations with the West. Overall, the expert sees an intensification of Iranian activities in South Caucasus.

Yevseyev believes that the system should be formed taking into account the problems of Nagorno-Karabakh, Georgia, Abkhazia and South Ossetia. The differences could be resolved via common approaches, he said. Security of all states should be equal regardless of their size. The expert assumes that today is just the right moment to search for compromise, because elections in Azerbaijan, Georgia, Armenia and Iran have already passed and they have more readiness for cooperation.
