Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani by telephone the situation around Syria and the preparations for the "Geneva — 2" conference, the press service of the Kremlin reports.
"The presidents of Russia and Iran exchanged views on international issues. Having considered in detail the situation around Syria, they reaffirmed their commitment to a peaceful resolution of the conflict and stressed the importance of ongoing efforts to develop the international Geneva -2 conference", the statement quoted by RIA Novosti says.
The Russian leader stressed that there is a real chance to find a solution to the Iranian nuclear issue.
"In the context of Iran's nuclear program, Putin emphasized that at present there is a real chance of finding a solution to this long-standing problem. For his part, the leader of Iran praised the work carried out by Russia in the framework of the «group of six» of international mediators", the report says .
