Belarus president visits Baku

Belarus's President Alexander Lukashenko is starting his two-day visit to Baku today and will meet Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in a closed-door and an expanded meeting. Sergey Kizima, Doctor of Politics, noted that good personal relations of the presidents will help their countries develop cooperation.

The expert said that Belarus wanted to develop assemblage facilities in Azerbaijan, increase exports to Azerbaijan, invite its investments in agriculture and engineering, high-tech centers in the next couple of years. Kizima does not predict talks about energy problems.

Fikret Sadykhov, a professor of the Western University, reminded that ties between Azerbaijan and Belarus were stable, established and had a nature of a partnership. The positions of the two states coincide in some international affairs. There are minor differences in integration.

Sadykhov reminded that Azerbaijan had helped Belarus in tough economic situations. He predicts that the presidents will discuss the upcoming Vilnius summit. The expert noted that Belarus will not be represented by Lukashenko at the summit.
