The third unit of the Baksan hydroelectric plant is planned to be launched in November, with full reconstruction of the facility planned to be completed in 2 or 2.5 years. Within the framework of repairing the main equipment of the main generator and turbine hall, water equipment for the ‘power machines’ will be manufactured, RIA Novosti reports.
Vestnik Kavkaza reported earlier that, on the night of 20-21 July, an armed group infiltrated the hydroelectric plant, killing two policemen. Five hand-made explosive devices equal to 1.5-3 kg of TNT were planted. Three generators were damaged.
Over 40 specialists were involved in repairing the Baksan hydroelectric plant. The work will be completed in the second quarter of 2012.

The Baksan hydroelectric plant is a branch of ‘RusHydro’ in Kabardino-Balkaria, built on the Baksan River. It supplies Kabardino-Balkaria, the resorts of the Caucasian Mineral Waters region and the Mineral Waters – Kislovodsk and Mineral Waters –Zheleznovodsk railroad branches with energy.
