Tymoshenko calls on Ukrainian president to sign associate membership agreement with EU

Jailed Ukrainian opposition leader, former prime minister and presidential hopeful Yulia Tymoshenko calls on President Viktor Yanukovich to sign the associate membership agreement with the European Union at the coming summit of the Eastern Partnership in Vilnius.

 

The Ukrainian government announced yesterday that preparation of the agreement had been suspended and that the country would reconsider its integration into the Customs Union of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan.

 

According to Tymoshenko, the cabinet has made a terrible mistake, which will lead to the end of Ukraine's independence and well-being. It's necessary that the agreement should be signed and she is ready to address the EU leaders herself in order to pursue them to ignore the instances of political persecutions in Ukraine in order to speed up the process of Ukraine's integration into the EU, Tymoshenko writes in her open letter to Yanukovich.
