The signing of the protocol to the agreement on Russia's military base site in Armenia will not affect the functions of this base, claimed Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, reports RIA-Novosti. The signing of the protocol on extending the validity of the treaty on the Russian military base in Armenia, for 49 years from 1995, is planned during the Russian president's visit to Armenia on Thursday. The base is located in Gyumri and performs an air defense role, equipped with an S-300 missile complex, MiG-29 jet fighters and 5,000 soldiers.
