Russian Federal Migration Service approves limits for foreign residency

The Federal Migration Service of Russia has approved a bill on restrictions for foreign residency in the country, said Zalina Kornilova, spokeswoman of the federal service, Interfax reports.

Foreigners arriving in Russia from states with visa free agreements will stay without visas for 90 days per six months. Kornilova said that every tenth foreigner was staying in Russia for 1-2 days.

The bill was introduced by Rizvan Kurbanov of the United Russia Party. Uninterrupted temporary stays in Russia will have no limitations in the future.

Russia has visa-free regimes with Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Ukraine and some other states. Citizens of the said countries need to have a national and an international passport to cross the order. In some cases, they need a voucher or a ticket to fly back.
