Georgia has initialed the association agreement with the EU at the Vilnius summit. Petre Mamradze, Head of the Institute for Strategic Management, emphasized that it will not be a historic moment. He reminded that Russia was opposed to signing of such documents, while Ukraine and Armenia had halted the process.
Mamradze noted that the association agreement will be signed in a year at best and will need more time for ratification. Syria has a similar agreement with the EU, Turkey has recently marked the 55th anniversary of its own association agreement, according to the expert.
Ramaz Sakvarelidze pointed out that Georgia would not quit the path towards European integration. Europe supports Georgian territorial integrity, offers economic conditions that could stimulate Georgian economy. The two factors are fundamental for Georgia.
The expert does not expect Georgian-Russian relations to be spoilt and reminded that such processes had no negative impact on relations with Baltic states.
