The police of Kabardino-Balkaria are carrying out high-scale investigations and search initiatives to find those suspected of being behind the attacks on vacationers in the Elbrus and Zolsk regions, where 4 people, including two policemen, were killed, RIA Novosti reports, citing the Unified Information Center of the law-enforcement agencies of Kabardino-Balkaria.
On the night of August 19th a group of 4 unknown masked gunmen opened automatic fire on vacationers, killing two of them, 2 km away from the village of Kendelen in the Elbrus region. Road policeman Mukhtar Baychekuyev and a homeless man died at the scene. The attackers stole two vehicles belonging to the vacationers and left the scene.
Earlier, on August 9th, five unknown masked gunmen beat up and shot dead a police colonel of the Dagestani Interior Ministry, Imin Ibragimov, in the tent camp of Jyly-Su, in the Zolsk region. They then killed a citizen of Rostov Territory who was nearby, who had stolen the colonel's car.
It is known that the criminals say that they are members of special Moscow groups. They were appearing in vacation resorts attempting to check documents. The police thought the criminals were their colleagues.
The authorities of Kabardino-Balkaria urged citizens to be attentive to suspicious people and aid the law-enforcers by informing them of the locations of terrorist and extremist activities.
