Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said that people who said the country could do well without foreign workers were dishonest. He noted that the country offered foreign specialists easier visa procedures and higher wages.
Medvedev emphasized that employment of foreigners should be carried out according to the law, and violators should be deported or punished together with those who employ them.
Problems with migrants should not be a source for nationalism, which, according to Medvedev, is suicidal for Russia. The country is multi-ethnic and multi-religious, he reminded.
The prime minister confirmed that Russia was not planning to adopt a visa regime for CIS member-states.
