Experts comment on Turkish FM's coming visit to Armenia

Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu is going to visit Armenia on December 12th in order to take part in the meeting of the foreign ministers of the Organization of Black Sea Economic Cooperation's member states. Vestnik Kavkaza discussed the possible resumption of the Turkish-Armenian talks concerning opening the mutual border.

The leader of the New TIme political party, Aram Karapetyan, believes the issue may be discussed in the framework of the visit, but underlines that no substantial progress should be expected so far. 

"Neither the elites, nor the leaders of the two states are ready to make such a big decision right now," he says.

Togrul Ismail, an associate professor at the Ankara University of Economics and Technology, stresses that Turkey is indeed interested in improving Turkish-Armenian relations and would be pleased to open the state border, but the Turkish authorities insist that the issue be resolved only if the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is settled. 

No such move is possible while the state of affairs in Karabakh remains the same, the expert underlines.
