Russian president Dmitry Medvedev has decorated the principal of the Russian-Armenian (Slavic) University, Armen Darbinyan, with the Order of “Friendship” and research advisor of the Russian Philological Institute, Aram Grigoryan, and the director of the department, Anaida Khachikyan, with Pushkin medals for their contribution to the development of Russian-Armenian cooperation in the sphere of education. The first prorector, Gagik Sarkisyan, was named Honorary Figure of Russian Higher Education. The University was initiated by the Russian government in 1998. It became the third institution of its type, along with Russian-Kyrgyz and Russian-Tajik Universities.
