Medvedev and Sargsyan open memorial to Russian soldiers

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan have opened a memorial in Gyumri to Russian soldiers that died in the Kars fortress in 1855 and 1878. There are 155 Russian soldiers buried, who stormed Kars twice, Gazeta.ru reports.


According to the Armenian president, the head of the Russian forces at the time in Caucasia, General Nikolay Muravyov-Karskiy, ordered a military base to be established in Gyumri.
