Russian foreign minister visits Tehran

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov is on a visit to Tehran to meet his Iranian counterpart Javad Zarif and possibly President Hassan Rouhani, ITAR-TASS reports.

Russia has no doubt that Iran will cooperate with the IAEA and notes that keeping the constructive mood of the Geneva talks would allow final agreements to be reached.

At the meeting in Tehran, they will discuss the prospects of the Geneva-2 Conference for Syria. Russia hopes that Iran will take part in the conference. The US has a contrary approach. Russia will maintain contacts with the US to find a common position, notes Mikhail Bogdanov, Russian Special Presidential Envoy and Deputy Foreign Minister.

Russia and Iran will discuss trade-economic and military cooperation. Iran is a trade partner of Russia in the Near and Middle East. The foreign ministers will discuss drug trafficking from Afghanistan and the Caspian summit Astrakhan will host in autumn 2014.
