Armenia requests food aid from Russia

The Russian government will send 1,000 tons of sunflower oil as aid to Armenia, the press-secretary of the Ministry of Emergencies of Armenia Nikolay Grigoryan announced, News Armenia reports.


He added that they are negotiating to have Russia send 5,000 tons of free wheat to Armenia.


On August 5th Russian Premier Vladimir Putin said that the production of Russian grain and grain products was halted due to the droughts in some regions of the country. Moreover, Russia introduced an embargo on exporting grain from Russia, which came into force on August 15th and will remain in force until the end of this year.
