Russia's republic of Kabardino-Balkaria may permit temporary residency for 1,000 Syrian refugees. 306 repatriants have received temporary residency permits and 130 received permanent permits, SKFO.ru reports.
Russia granted quotas for 450 people in 2012, said Khanifa Bittirova, spokeswoman of the Kabardino-Balkarian Directorate of the Federal Migration Service.
Over 500 Syrian refugees have moved to the region since the start of the conflict. Many found jobs and learned the Russian language.Vladimir Nakatsev, Head of the regional office of the All-Russian Association for Links with Compatriots Abroad, said that donations helped buy 82 houses for refugees this year. They will become the refugees’ property in 5 years.
Russian President Vladimir Putin signed the 13-year strategy of national policy in December. The document stimulates lessons of language, history and legislature for migrants.
