Head of Syrian rebel headquarters flees country

Salim Idris, Chief of the General Staff of the Free Syrian Army, has fled the country after the Islamic Front took over his headquarters and warehouses of the organization, KM.ru reports.

Idris moved to Turkey and then reached Doha (Qatar) by plane.

With the Free Syrian Army falling in the hands of Islamists, President Barack Obama’s administration will have more problems organizing the Geneva-2 Conference planned in January, an unnamed US official said.

Militants took the Bab al-Hava Checkpoint under control on the Turkish border. The Islamic Front appeared in late November 2013. It united Ahrar al-Sham, notable for killing peaceful citizens and cooperating with terrorists of the Al-Nusra Front, a subdivision of Al Qaeda.
