Former Egyptian president and Islamist leader Mohamed Morsi has been charged with espionage and treason, Ekho Moskvy reports on Wednesday.
According to prosecutors, Morsi and other leaders of the Muslim Brotherhood contacted the Hamas movement and shared top secret information with the militants. Morsi is also allegedly responsible for supporting terrorist groups and organizing terrorist attacks on Egyptian territory.
Morsi served as the fifth president of Egypt, from 30 June 2012 to 3 July 2013, when he was removed by the military after mass protests, which started after he amended the constitution in order to increase his power.
