Iranian Ambassador to Russia, Mehdi Sanai, told Vestnik Kavkaza that Iran respected Armenia’s decision to join the Moscow-led Customs Union and wanted to cooperate with the organization in the future. He added that Tehran was working on plans for cooperation with the Customs Union.
Sanai noted that Iran had not decided to join the Customs Union and wanted to cooperate with countries of the region.
Commenting on plans of Iran, the diplomat said that the Islamic Republic considered building a gas pipeline for energy exports, which had been mentioned by Turkish Energy Minister Taner Yildiz. Iran is more interested in an agreement with Syria and Iraq to build the pipeline in the south. Sanai emphasized that a pipeline in the western direction was possible too.
