Sergey Naryshkin, Speaker of the Lower Chamber of the Russian Parliament, will visit Afghanistan today to meet Hamid Karzai, the President, Fazal Hadi Muslimyar, Speaker of the Upper Chamber of Parliament, Abdul Rauf Abrahimi, Speaker of the Lower Chamber of Parliament, ITAR-TASS reports.
Leonid Slutsky, Head of the parliamentary committee for the CIS, Eurasian integration and relations with compatriots, said that Naryshkin was not making the visit as the Speaker of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly. He reminded that Afghanistan had become an observer of the CSTO PA in April.
Slutsky emphasized that the CSTO was discussing drug control and security of Central Asia with Afghan representatives.
Naryshkin is assisted by Vladimir Kalanda, Deputy Director of the FDCS, Zamir Kabulov, Special Russian Presidential Envoy for Afghanistan.
