Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev is marking the 52nd birthday today.
He has been congratulated by Presidents Vladimir Putin (Russia), Nursultan Nazarbayev (Kazakhstan), Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov (Turkmenistan), Ramazan Abdulatipov (Dagestan), Suleyman Demirel (Turkey, 1993-2001).
Ilham Aliyev was born in Baku on December 24, 1961. He entered the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO) in 1977, started post-graduate studies in 1982, became a Candidate of History in 1985.
He taught at MGIMO ins 1985-1990. He was engaged in private business in 1991-1994 and was in charge of an industrial field.
Aliyev was Vice President of the State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) in 1994-2003. He was elected as an Azerbaijani MP in 1995 and 2000. He left the parliament in 2003 and became the Azerbaijani Prime Minister.
Aliyev became the President of Azerbaijan on October 15, 2003. He received over 76% of votes. He was re-elected on October 15, 2008 with over 88% of votes and for the third time on October 9, 2013 with 84.54% of votes.
The nation made its choice: people voted for political stability, prosperity, sustainable socio-economic development. Under Aliyev’s rule, the country saw economic growth, opening of jobs, strengthening of Azerbaijani independence. The country has an annual economic growth of 20%.
