Afghanistan asks Russia for help in infrastructure and security

Abdul Rauf Ibrahim, Speaker of the Lower Chamber of the Afghan Parliament, has met Sergey Naryshkin, Speaker of the Lower Chamber of the Russian Parliament, today and asked Russia for support in infrastructure projects and security enforcement, RIA Novosti reports.

The projects include restoration of the Salang Tunnel, construction of the second Salang Tunnel and granting of scholarships for Afghan students. Ibrahimi said that security enforcement could be achieved within the framework of SCO efforts to fight terrorism and extremism, cooperation of Afghanistan, Russia and the European Commission to prevent drug trafficking. Ibrahimi thanked Naryshkin for efforts that had helped Afghanistan become an observer of the CSTO PA.
