Putin promises to combat terrorism

In his televised address to the nation Russian President Vladimir Putin says the government's struggle against terrorism will continue until the terrorist groups are defeated. The remarks came after two deadly blasts in the Southern Russian city of Volgograd, which killed dozens of people.

"This year we faced severe challenges such as the recent terrorist attacks on Volgograd and unprecedented natural disasters in the Far Eastern region of the country," Putin said.

"In such cases Russia has always been united and solid," the president said.
