The President of the Georgian breakaway republic of South Ossetia, Dmitry Medoyev, says no referendum on the republic's joining the Russian Federation is going to take place. "No corresponding decision has been made, the issue is not even being considered," he told Russia's private Dozhd TV channel.
The idea of such a referendum was recently suggested by the United Ossetia's party.
