Several Abkhaz refugees have started a hunger strike at the office of the European Commission, protesting against their eviction from buildings being sold after privatization, radio ‘Svoboda’ reports.
Hundreds of Abkhaz refugee families were evicted and offered to be rehoused in Zugdidi, where international organizations have prepared accommodation for them. But the refugees say that they will not be able to feed their families in Zugidi, because they can only find work in the capital.
Some strikers have literally stitched up their mouths, a woman said she would crucify herself at the residence of Mikhail Saakashvili unless she was allowed to live in the building of the former hospital.
Small traders who were forbidden to trade on streets of Tbilisi may also join the protest.
